A clean, clear, blue, and sparkling pool is literally impossible without you. As a pool owner, you are ultimately responsible for achieving and maintaining day-to-day water chemistry and the resulting clean, clear, blue, and sparkling water.

At times though, problems will arise that the everyday pool owner cannot and should not repair. Rather, consult your pool professionals and set up a service call. To complete some repairs, it may be necessary to replace entire equipment or components, versus just replacing parts. Although this repair is more expensive upfront, it will provide a repair with longevity results, which will keep follow-up service calls to an absolute minimum, which can save you hundreds of dollars over time. Do not put a band-aid on a wound that needs a major operation. Take care of the repair correctly right then and there.

Opening and closing/winterizing your pool is another matter that a pool professional is recommended for. It is highly recommended that you contract a pool professionals to open your pool, especially the equipment start-up. You can save money by removing your own winter cover and by installing your own hand rails and ladders. But, for putting the equipment back together and starting the equipment, it really is best to hire a pool professional to make sure that the pool is properly opened, started, and operational.

It is also recommended that you contract a pool professionals to winterize your pool, especially to blow all of the water from all of the plumbing lines and add the antifreeze. You can save money by removing your own hand rails and ladders and by installing your own winter cover; it is not necessary to remove the diving board or the in-pool light. But, for the plumbing lines, it really is best to pay to make sure that the pool is properly winterized. If you do not get all of the water out of the plumbing lines and properly flush them with anti-freeze, the lines can (and probably will) crack, causing your pool to leak, resulting in a very expensive and very time-consuming service call.
